Noodle Doodles

When the idea for this project arose, my seven-year-old son Noah expressed an interest in joining in with his own creations. Low and behold: Noah's Noodle Doodles were born. Point of fact: he actually finished his first project before I did! We decided he should have very few "rules" for his efforts, in order for it to be the most fun (and, in my opinion, rewarding). He would do one project per week, base it on a prompt from the book, and never repeat any of the prompts until he'd done them all once. We've agreed that I will help if or when he asks; otherwise, everything from medium to subject matter is up to him.

He earned the nickname "Noodle" when he was very tiny because he would flop around crazily in your arms when he got upset. His best buddy from before birth still uses the nickname but I saw an opportunity with this project to give the nickname a little more depth and meaning. I explained to him that "noodle" was also another word for brain. This tickled him immensely, especially when I pointed out that every artistic creation starts as an idea in the brain, ergo, they are all "Noodle Doodles"!
